I'm back from Bintan! :D And I'm down with a terrible flu, a slight fever and without a voice to boot. (",)v No thanks to the trip though. It was just waiting to happen, since I have been lacking proper rest these past 6 weeks. Well anyway, Bintan was a blast! Went there for a short getaway with Nisa and Syikin before our Teaching Practice starts. The scenery was beautiful, to say the least. And the winds there were like the strongest winds I have ever, ever experienced. In the evening, the wind got so strong that I actually felt scared. Cos with the strong winds also came big, huge waves. But, those were all mindless worries. For nothing undesireable happened. Haha. And for me, the highlight for this whole trip (besides the breath-taking views) was this one incident. I saved a little girl's life while I was there! Can't believe it myself. So this was what happened: There was this Korean dad and his daughter who was probably around 6 or 7 years old in the swimming pool. The father was swimming in front of the girl who initially had a float on her. For some reason, it was taken away from her. Dad just went on swimming ahead of her. Girl was left on her own and it looked like she was struggling to keep afloat. The water was slightly above MY chest level. At first, she looked fine, but later she started waving her arms quite frantically. That was when I thought that she was starting to drown. Seeing that her dad was oblivoius to this near-drowning incident, I quickly swam to her. By the time I reached her, she was totally submerged in the water and wasn't bobbing up and down anymore. Up to this point, her family was still oblivious to what was happening. They only realised when I brought her back up, above the surface of the water. Her whole extended family who were sitting around the pool then started clapping and cheering me. And oh God. That was so embarrassing la. So, I have realised that I CAN swim to save a life. Lol. And while we were there, we made friends with a local, Luis. He brought us across Bintan, to the city area, Tanjong Pinang for some shopping. It was around an hour's drive from Bintan's resort area. And things there were obviously much cheaper compared to Bintan's where everything is viciously overpriced. The experience we had at Tanjong Pinang was a definite eye-opener. There's just so much that be compared with Singapore and the typical Singaporean lifetsyle. Before I leave you with a few of the many, many pics we took, I'd say I'd go to Bintan again. And you should too. Maybe I'll go there again when it's not the monsoon season. So that the water activities would be available this time. :) View from the resort lobby
